Sponsored Video: Historic Activities with the Kids

With a school half term and May bank holiday coming up in just over two weeks, parents may need a few ideas of things to do. So if you like the idea of historic activities with the kids, here’s an event you can take the children to at the end of May.

If your little ones are as hooked on Horrible Histories as mine are, you may enjoy a visit to Hampton Court Palace where they are putting on a whole range of family activities during half term. The celebrations are for the whole of 2015 as it is their 500 year anniversary! Apparently Henry VIII’s trusted adviser, Cardinal Wolsey commissioned builders back in 1515 to lay the foundations of this palace.

‘Historic Royal Palaces’ looks after 6 UK palaces including Hampton Court where King Henry VIII lived and his much longed for heir was born. It is also the place where Shakespeare and Handel performed and where Henry VIII’s third wife Jane Seymour died! Steeped in royal history, the palace is today, one of Britain’s much loved treasures and you can experience its grandeur for yourself during the bank holiday weekend at the ‘Time Quake’ quest for families.

This summer, two large garden parties will take place to celebrate and showcase a ‘palace of two halves’ where both the Tudor and Baroque eras are recognised. In traditional Tudor style, a medieval joust will take place to show the sporting prowess of the jousters. Meanwhile during the Baroque themed weekend, costumed actors playing Charles II and his new Queen plus guests will celebrate a masque – a form of festive courtly entertainment, in the formal garden.

Art and history are a great school holiday activity that the kids are sure to enjoy! Keep up with the goings on at Hampton Court Palace on their Twitter, YouTube and Facebook accounts.
